Much more than just diving in the Medes Islands
L’Estartit is synonymous with diving in the Medes Islands.
But this corner of the Costa Brava is a true paradise for water sports… as there are plenty of different activities on offer in this area to help you enjoy the sea.

Kayaking
Kayaking from L’Estartit to the Montgrí Natural Park is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have.
Caves, cliffs, hidden coves and crystal-clear water make this route an adventure accessible to everyone.
👉 Ideal for: groups and couples looking for an active yet accessible activity.
Stand-up paddleboarding
Stand-up paddleboarding is one of the easiest and most versatile options. The calm waters of the area make it perfect for beginners.
You can go at your own pace or join a guided tour, which is particularly recommended at sunset.
👉 Ideal for: families, couples or groups looking for something peaceful.

Boat hire
One of the best ways to enjoy a group outing is to hire a small boat from the port of L’Estartit.
Until 30 September 2026, you do not need a licence and can explore the coast, anchor near the Medes Islands or discover coves that are inaccessible by land. From 1 October 2026, boat hire without a sailing licence will be prohibited in Spain, and it will be compulsory to hold at least a Basic Sailing Licence (titulín) to hire any recreational boat.
Snorkelling
The protected waters around the Medes Islands are among the richest in marine life in the Mediterranean.
With just a pair of goggles and a snorkel, you can see schools of fish, rocky seabeds and a surprising array of marine life.
👉 Ideal for: all ages.

Banana boat and water games
If you’re looking for a more active way to have fun, inflatable toys towed by a motorboat (banana, doughnut, sofa) are a classic choice.
Speed, splashes and plenty of laughter make this a favourite group activity.
👉 Ideal for: friends and families with older children.
Jet ski
Guided jet ski tours are an exciting way to explore the coast, with no prior experience required.
They’re usually done in pairs and let you discover the coastline from a different perspective.
👉 Ideal for: adding a touch of adventure.

Boat trip around the Medes Islands
If you’re looking for a more relaxed and comfortable way to enjoy the scenery without getting wet, there are organised trips that take you around the Medes Islands, some of which even feature glass-bottomed boats.
👉 Ideal for: families with young children or older people.
If you can only choose one experience, we recommend kayaking or a boat trip.
These are the two most authentic ways to discover the coast of L’Estartit and understand why this area is so special. We recommend booking any of these activities in advance, especially in July and August.
From our apartments in L’Estartit, you’ll be very close to any of the activities you’d like to do.
