The Best Family Activities to Enjoy in L’Estartit
L’Estartit has been awarded the Family Tourism Destination label, a distinction that guarantees a wide range of activities designed for families with young children. Throughout the season, the Town Council organises open-air cinema screenings, children’s workshops, live shows, and many other family-friendly activities, most of which take place in the square next to the Tourist Office, just a 10-minute walk from our apartments.
Playgrounds for Children
When travelling with children, having a playground nearby is always a great advantage.
Just a few metres from our Sa Gavina Apartments, you’ll find several playgrounds with swings and play areas suitable for children of all ages. They are the perfect place for little ones to have fun while you enjoy a pleasant stroll at any time of the day.

Discover L’Estartit with Estar and Tit
Take part in a fun treasure hunt led by Estar, a starfish, and Tit, a seagull, who guide families through L’Estartit’s main attractions in a playful, creative, and educational way.
The experience includes a route with information panels and an activity booklet featuring games and challenges at each point of interest. It’s a great way to explore L’Estartit while strolling along the Molinet Promenade, the seafront promenade, and the Ter Vell wetlands.

Visit the Museum of the Mediterranean
If you’re looking for an activity that combines culture and fun, the Museum of the Mediterranean offers fascinating exhibitions for the whole family, providing an enjoyable way to discover the history and traditions of the Empordà region.
One of the most popular exhibitions is “Montgrí: A Story of Giants”, which explores the history of Catalonia’s traditional Giants and mythical festival creatures. In addition, the Giants and Beasts Room allows children to try on a traditional big-head costume (capgròs) and experience this unique Catalan tradition firsthand.

Have Fun at the Mini Beach Club
During the summer, L’Estartit’s Main Beach is home to the Mini Beach Club, a municipal service for children aged 4 to 12.
Supervised by qualified activity leaders, the Mini Beach Club offers workshops and fun activities designed especially for children. With a maximum capacity of 20 participants, it provides personalised attention in a safe and welcoming environment. As well as having fun, children can make new friends and enjoy the beach in a different and completely safe way.

Discover L’Estartit’s Beaches and Coves
L’Estartit offers much more than its large family-friendly beach. Its coastline is home to secluded coves surrounded by nature, with crystal-clear waters that are perfect for snorkelling or simply relaxing away from the busiest areas.
With its fine sand and shallow waters, the Main Beach is ideal for families with young children. If you feel like exploring, you’ll find beautiful coves such as Cala Pedrosa and Cala Ferriol—true hidden gems of the Costa Brava that are well worth a visit.

Climb to Montgrí Castle
If your family enjoys hiking, a walk up to Montgrí Castle is one of the area’s must-do experiences. The trail passes through the Montgrí Natural Park, where you can admire the Mediterranean flora and fauna before reaching this impressive medieval fortress.
Although the climb requires a little effort, the views at the top make it more than worthwhile. From the summit, you can enjoy spectacular panoramas of the Medes Islands, the Bay of Pals, the Empordà countryside and, on clear days, even the Pyrenees.

Take a Glass-Bottom Boat Trip to the Medes Islands
One of the most popular family excursions is a glass-bottom boat trip to the Medes Islands. During the journey, you’ll enjoy spectacular views of the coastline’s cliffs and discover the rich marine life beneath the surface without having to dive.
Children especially love spotting colourful fish and learning fascinating facts about this protected marine reserve, one of the most important in the Mediterranean.

Enjoy Kayaking or Paddle Boarding as a Family
Exploring the coastline by kayak or paddle board is an unforgettable experience and a fantastic way to get started with water sports.
In just a few hours, you’ll learn the basics and be able to paddle to sea caves, small beaches and hidden natural spots that cannot be reached by swimming from the shore. It’s the perfect activity to enjoy with older children. In this post, you’ll find the best places to go kayaking.

Visit the Medes Interpretation Centre
Before or after your visit to the Medes Islands, it’s well worth stopping by the Espai Medes, the interpretation centre for the Montgrí, Medes Islands and Baix Ter Natural Park.
Through interactive exhibits, audiovisual displays and scale models, both children and adults can discover the area’s remarkable biodiversity, learn about the importance of protecting marine ecosystems, and explore the history of this protected natural area. It’s a highly recommended visit that will help you better understand everything you’ve experienced during your stay.
