Bad weather doesn’t have to mean boredom. It can be an opportunity to discover hidden corners of L’Estartit or Torroella, enjoy the local culture, or simply relax in your apartment. Whether you’re travelling as a couple, with your family, or on your own, there’s something for everyone.
In this post, you’ll find our favourite things to do in L’Estartit when it rains.
Cinema and theatre
L’Espai Ter is a cultural centre and auditorium in Torroella. It serves as a theatre, concert hall, occasional cinema, dance venue and a venue for festivals in the Empordà region. It has a fairly busy programme throughout the year, which you can view here.
Cinema Montgrí is a small cinema with plenty of character; the original building dates from the late 1920s and is in the Art Deco style. It screens many films in their original language and combines new releases, arthouse films, classics and family films. You can check the programme here

Savor the local cuisine
Rainy days are the perfect excuse to settle down at a cosy table and discover the flavours of the region. In l’Estartit, you’ll find all kinds of restaurants, from those serving Mediterranean and seafood dishes – where fresh fish takes centre stage – to pizzerias. Discover the traditional dishes and cuisine of l’Estartit.

Discover the museums
The Mascort Private Foundation is Torroella’s most elegant and ‘secret’ museum. It is housed in a historic stately home in the old town. It feels like the private collection of a cultured Empordà family, opened to the public, with temporary exhibitions and a focus closely linked to the Mediterranean and Catalan heritage.
The Palau Soterra Museum belongs to the Fundació Vila Casas and is dedicated to national and international contemporary photography within a 15th-century palace.
L’Espai Medes serves as a marine interpretation centre for the Montgrí Natural Park, the Medes Islands and the Baix Ter region. It is designed to be a modern, educational experience, featuring interactive panels and the town’s maritime history. Ideal for visiting with children
The Mediterranean Museum has a fairly modern and experiential approach. The museum’s aim is to explain how the Mediterranean connects territories, cultures and ways of life through temporary exhibitions, workshops… That is why many people leave saying they ‘understand the Empordà better’ after visiting it.

A quiet plan: reading and relaxing
If you’re in the mood for something a bit more laid-back, use the rain as an excuse to stay in the apartments and read that book you’ve been putting off, watch a film, play board games with the family, or simply relax by the window with the sound of the rain in the background – that’s all part of the travel experience too.
Sometimes, the real luxury of a trip is doing nothing at all.

From our apartments in l’Estartit (Sa Gavina), you can enjoy this corner of the Costa Brava and create shared memories, even when it rains.
