The best hiking trails in l’Estartit for enjoying the Costa Brava on foot

The natural surroundings of l’Estartit and Torroella de Montgrí offer endless possibilities for hiking and enjoying the outdoors.
Whether you are travelling as a couple, with friends, family or on your own, you will find routes for all levels and ages, with spectacular landscapes in the Montgrí Natural Park, the Medes Islands and the Baix Ter.

Below is a selection of recommended routes classified according to their difficulty.

Low difficulty: Ruta del Vent

The Ruta del Vent, gets its name from its exposure to the tramontana wind. It is advisable to avoid it if strong cold winds are forecast.

It is a circular route, shaped like an eight, with a distance of 6.50 km and a slope of 50 metres.

It is an easy route, ideal for children or families. There are no water sources along the route, so it is advisable to take sufficient water with you and avoid the middle of the day during the summer.

📍 Highlight: Barraca dels Hereus, a traditional building that forms part of the rural heritage of the area.

Windy Route

Medium difficulty: Route to Cala Montgó

The Route to Cala Montgó connects the seafront promenade of l’Estartit with the stunning Cala Montgó, passing through some of the most beautiful landscapes on the coast.

As it is a linear route, the return journey is either along the same path or by transport. The route has an elevation gain of 179 metres and a distance of almost 9 kilometres.

The trails can be steep and rocky. In addition, there are areas without mobile coverage, so it is advisable to download the map in advance or bring a printed copy.

High difficulty: Tour of the municipality of l’Escala

The Tour of the municipality of l’Escala is the most demanding of the proposed routes. It allows you to discover the natural and cultural treasures of both the interior and the coast of the municipality.

It is a circular route with an elevation gain of 133 metres and a total distance of 18.20 kilometres.

Along the way, you will enjoy rural paths, cliffs and sections of the promenade. You can also stop for lunch at the Horts d’en Roure picnic area.
