The Sant Andreu Fair in Torroella de Montgrí / L’Estartit: tradition, culture and community
There are always things to do in L’Estartit, whether it’s summer, autumn, winter or spring. Now is one of the best times of year to enjoy a nice walk and, why not, visit a fun and cultural fair such as the Sant Andreu Fair in Torroella de Montgrí.
Every year at the end of November, the municipality of Torroella de Montgrí and L’Estartit dresses up to celebrate one of its most emblematic events: the Sant Andreu Fair.
This is one of the oldest fairs in Catalonia, with more than six centuries of history. It is much more than just a fair: it is a meeting point between agricultural tradition, local economic activity and the richness of popular culture. Its importance transcends the commercial or agricultural: it acts as an exponent of local identity, the vitality of the associative and cultural fabric, and the collective pride of its people.
When and where is the Sant Andreu Fair held?
- Dates: 29th and 30th November 2025
- Opening hours: from approximately 10 am to 8 pm
- Location: Espai Ter and the main promenades (Passeig de Catalunya, Passeig Vicenç Bou) as well as some streets in the historic centre of Torroella de Montgrí.
What can you see and do?
The fair combines many types of activities, offering something appealing to visitors interested in agriculture as well as those seeking gastronomy, culture or simply a good time. Some of the most notable sections:
- Markets: local products, crafts, food, used vehicles, agricultural machinery.
- Exhibitions and cultural activities: themed exhibitions (e.g. on agriculture, local history, the environment), dramatised tours, displays of popular culture.
- Livestock/animals: farm animal show, horse shows, pony rides, equestrian shows.
- Popular culture: parades, choir performances, children’s activities, etc.
- Technical and professional conferences: for those working in agriculture, livestock and other rural sectors, there are conferences, technical talks, debates on agricultural policies (e.g. the CAP) and other developments in the sector.

What makes it special?
- The combination of tradition and modernity. The Sant Andreu Fair not only preserves ancient rituals and customs, it also incorporates new features to respond to contemporary challenges (the environment, innovation, entrepreneurship, rural tourism).
- The proximity and participation of the community: local organisations, farmers, businesses, artisans and visitors actively collaborate to give each edition its own unique character.
- The geographical and cultural setting: Torroella de Montgrí and its natural surroundings (Montgrí, Ter, the proximity to the sea with l’Estartit and the Medes Islands) add value, especially if visitors take the opportunity to stay overnight, sample the local cuisine and explore the landscapes.
Tips for visiting the Sant Andreu Fair
- Wear comfortable footwear, as you will be walking a lot around the different areas of the fairgrounds and through the streets of the town.
- Plan your time: some activities have specific schedules, such as openings, exhibitions or cultural events, which may require you to arrive in advance.
- Check accommodation, restaurants and transport in advance, as demand can increase during the fair.
The Sant Andreu Fair in Torroella de Montgrí / L’Estartit is much more than a commercial event: it is an expression of identity, collective memory and coexistence between rural and urban life, the past and the present.
