Visit to the Medes Islands in Estartit
The Medes Islands are approximately 1 nautical mile (2km) from the coast of L’Estartit in the Costa Brava, and consists of seven small islands and rocky islets. There have been over 1,300 recorded species of animals and plants, such as red coral, grouper and lobster. It is one of the most important Mediterranean scuba-diving areas.
The Medes Islands are part of the Natural Park and a Protected Area, and therefore access is restricted to the islands. If you do not have your own boat you can plan an exciting family excursion with one of the cruises departing from the Port of Estartit. There are several routes available to travelers, some include the possibility to take a dip, and most of them have a glass bottom floor, allowing travelers to easily observe marine life without getting wet.
Another possibility to access the Medes Islands is to book a place on one of the organized kayaking tours, guided by experts who will accompany you throughout the tour.
There are many diving centers in Estartit. Many diving centers and curses for beginners to start their first dive safely. They also have equipment and material for hire and different schedules group outings. It is recommended that in the high season to book your place in advance, and always follow the advice of professionals.
