The cultural pulse of Torroella de Montgrí-L’Estartit is rhythmic and varied. Art, culture and heritage place the municipality on a par with the most important cultural destinations in Catalonia.
Land of painters, sculptors, writers and photographers, has generated a cultural dynamism with the presence of private foundations and art galleries that have been established in the municipality. Below is a brief description of the different cultural spaces in the municipality of Torroella de Montgrí-L’Estartit.
Museums:
–Museu de la Mediterrània: it is a museum that opens the doors to the discovery and to the knowledge of the human space of the Mediterranean starting from the territory of the Massif of the Montgrí, the plain of the Baix Ter and the Medes Islands.
-Casa Galibern – Fundació Mascort: it is a noble house of colonial style of the end of the XIX century that welcomes exhibitions and conferences around three pillars: the knowledge and study of the history, the understanding and enjoyment of the art, the defense and protection of the nature.
-Palau Solterra – Fundació Vila Casas: 15th century building with renaissance and noucentista decoration, dedicated to exhibitions of contemporary photography from the collection.
Art Galleries:
-Atrium: is a space for critical reflection, showing the works of the visual artist Joan Carles Roca, located in the historic centre of Torroella de Montgrí.
-Michael Dunev Art Projects: gallery dedicated to international contemporary art with monographic exhibitions by renowned artists. Located in a restored 17th century house in the historic centre of Torroella de Montgrí.
-Traç d’Art: is a cultural space that houses temporary exhibitions and art collections of young artists and recognized contemporary artists, located in the “Passeig Marítim de L’Estartit”.
