This festival, which honours the patron saint of sailors and fishermen, combines religious traditions, cultural activities, and entertainment for the whole family. She is known as the protector of those who sail the seas.<\/p>\n<p>The tradition dates back centuries, when fishermen in the region sought the protection of the Virgin to face the dangers of the sea. This devotion has remained alive over the years, and every July 16th, l&#8217;Estartit pays tribute to its patroness with a series of celebrations and activities.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-3\"><h2><strong>Maritime Procession in l&#8217;Estartit<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The central event of the Festival of the Mare de D\u00e9u del Carme is undoubtedly the maritime procession. This poignant procession begins with a solemn mass in honor of\u00a0 our Lady of Carmen, held at the local church. Following the ceremony, an image of the Virgin is carried in procession to the port, accompanied by residents and visitors.<\/p>\n<p>Once at the port, the image of the Virgin is placed on a boat adorned with flowers and flags.
